In census-operations literature, a drop-in centre is a staffed help point where residents can get assistance completing or submitting census forms — a concept some countries pair with self-enumeration.
Confidence: unconfirmed for India. As of August 2026, no official ORGI or PIB communication announcing drop-in centres for Census 2027 could be found. What IS confirmed is the official assistance architecture: tooltips, user guides, FAQs and tutorial videos built into the Self-Enumeration Portal; the enumerator's mandatory household visit (including retrieving lost SE IDs and correcting submitted data); and escalation to the Charge Officer (BDO/Tehsildar/Municipal Secretary/Ward Officer) if a household is not covered.
