For Census 2027 the questions were notified in the Gazette in January 2026; news reports counted 33 questions, while PIB's backgrounder infographic lists 34 numbered fields (some, like line number and building number, are enumerator-recorded identifiers rather than questions to the respondent). The items fall into four groups: condition of the house (floor/wall/roof material, use and condition of the census house), household information (head's name, sex, SC/ST status, ownership status, dwelling rooms, married couples), amenities (drinking water, lighting, latrine, drainage, bathing, kitchen and LPG/PNG, cooking fuel) and assets (radio, TV, internet access, laptop/computer, phone, vehicles), plus main cereal consumed and a mobile number for census communication.

In 2027 it is filled in-app, not on paper.
